Overview

Candidates enrolled as part of our new hire apprenticeship program, Graduate Accelerated Professional (GAP), will spend 12-18 months of intensive mentorship developing skills to lay the foundation for impactful careers in the power industry as a Qualus employee. During their time in the program, employees will complete structured, task-based learning objectives while learning from experts across Qualus’ lines of business. Employees will complete the program with an intensive panel exam designed to test their knowledge and celebrate their accomplishments. 

Curriculum

Selected candidates will be hired and mentored by senior engineers and technicians. Highlights of the program include:

  • 12 to 18 months of training, combining field, in-house, and third-party instruction
  • Structured, task-based learning defined by a personal qualification standard
  • Experience leading projects focused on safety, planning, and process discipline
  • Support local operations staff to plan, organize, and manage workload
  • Reinforcement of weekly learning topics with on-the-job training and development discussions
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to discuss work scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements

Learning Objectives

Everyone’s complete learning during their time in the GAP program will be unique to their operation and the opportunities available in their region, but all members of the GAP program can expect to receive thorough instruction on fundamentals such as:

  • Electrical power mathematics, conventions, and standards
  • Apparatus and equipment identification
  • Power industry safety and work practices
  • People leadership and project management
  • The role and practice of electrical testing and maintenance
  • Electrical engineering design covering a wide variety of disciplines including:
    • Protection and control
    • Power infrastructure
    • Power system studies
    • Supervisory control and data acquisition
    • Distribution systems

Participants

All participants are or will be employees of Qualus. Potential candidates include, but not limited to:

  • New graduates from two or four-year Electrical Engineering programs
