Relay Testing and Commissioning Basic is an interactive seminar designed to teach relay technicians and electrical systems commissioners the basics of protective relay testing and protection systems commissioning. The course is aimed at personnel between 6 months and 2 years of related experience but can be taught to those just entering the field. The course combines in-class lecture, group activities, and hands on experience with protection system equipment. This course is intended to be manufacturer agnostic and does not go into depth with specific relay models or testing software suites. In addition to the core learning material, attendees will spend time learning important fundamentals of power math, electrical phasors, and symmetrical components. Participants in the class will leave with an excellent foundational understanding of the work that goes into protection and control systems design, creating commissioning plans, and using a strategic approach to relay testing and troubleshooting.
